Earlier in the year, Louise Brown, our Head of Leisure, was invited to experience COMO Laucala in Fiji. COMO Laucala Island is an extraordinary natural paradise in Fiji — one of the world’s largest private island resorts, with just 25 villas.

Their residences are like private homes, each in its own lost world: suspended over the water, on hilltops, amidst rainforest and beside the rolling waves.

Residence interiors are softly curved and full of free-flowing shapes. Thatched roofs are made from the leaves of sago palms, floors are laid with local timber, and the spaces also feature ‘balabala’ fern stems and a traditional coconut husk weave known as ‘magimagi’.

Louise just loved the location and privacy of the island:

“The island is just stunning – 12sq kilometres of private island with its own airstrip and just 25 residences. It’s secluded but maintains a beautiful sense of welcome and warmth to everyone.”

One of the highlights was definitely the food.

Their menus are centred around health, wellbeing, and sustainability. With over 80% of the food that is served coming from the island’s farm, the cuisine is super fresh and delicious.

And there is plenty of opportunity to work up an appetite. Several pools, horse riding, a 18 hole golf course, a farm tour, diving, snorkelling and a plethora of water sports and sailing options, will keep you busy.

However, if it’s relaxation and/or wellness that you want, COMO Laucala offers a range of wellness treatments at their spa or at your villa.

Louise was taken by the natural beauty of the island – everywhere you go, the beauty greets you.

The Fijian people are wonderful as well, happy and always smiling. The staff are amazing and make you feel at home from the moment you step off the plane.

Dining

Not just flavour, but health, wellbeing and self-sustainability are core values to the COMO Laucala Island dining experience. Menus include COMO Shambhala options, which are high in taste and nutrition, low in fats and refined sugars. We grow fruits and vegetables, breed poultry and cattle, and bottle our own honey and volcanic mineral water. This produce then goes into all our restaurant and bar menus, from farm to table. Every stay includes all dining and beverages (aside from special vintages from the resort’s first-class wine cellar).

Plantation House
A restaurant located in a classic plantation home offering fine dining and specialty wines, including older vintages and ‘New World’ options.

Seagrass Lounge and Restaurant
A treetop dining area with Pan-Asian culinary influences, panoramic views and a lively atmosphere – accessible by land and sea.

Rock Lounge
A laid-back bar overlooking Seagrass Bay with spectacular sunset views and exceptional cocktails.

Pool Bar
A relaxed poolside hang-out that serves tropical drinks and light bites.

Beach Bar
A spot on the shore to enjoy fragrant barbecues of freshly caught fish.
