Last month, Spencer Travel’s Chloe Ezzy had the pleasure of participating in a Far North Queensland trip hosted by Shangri-La, The Marina, Cairns. We know that Australia, and Queensland in particular, has some incredible experiences on offer, but we have to say, we were a bit jealous hearing what Chloe got to see and do on her trip.

The trip started with a beautiful dinner at The Backyard by Shangri-La, their alfresco restaurant, famous for relaxed waterside dining. The Backyard has a vibrant, funky feel with a distinct local North Queensland personality. The chefs utilise incredible local produce such as Far North Queensland mud crabs, prawns, oysters, caviar, meats, and fruit to create beautiful signature dishes.

The group also had the pleasure of heading out to the UNESCO Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef, which never fails to disappoint. Snorkelling off the boat at Briggs Reef encountering marine life such as reef sharks, wrasse fish, parrotfish, and rainbow corals. For Chloe taking in the beauty of the Reef was definitely a highlight.

Chloe’s best experience though was the scenic helicopter ride along the Great Barrier Reef from Port Douglas to back Cairns, after a fantastic rainforest journey through Mossman Gorge and the Daintree. The sheer beauty of the tropical lush green forest and the coastlines are incredible, and it’s why so many travellers are opting for a North Queensland holiday.
