Our MD Penny Spencer and husband Edwin had the pleasure of joining Taj Palaces and Exotic Destinations for a luxury tour of India last month.
This 14-day trip took Penny and Edwin from New Delhi to Agra, Jaipur, Jodphur, Udaipur and Hyderabad, staying at Taj properties along the way.
Whilst all of them were stunning, Penny loved the Taj Lake Palace, in Udaipur – the Venice of India. The Palace was built in the 1700’s as the summer residence for the Royal Dynasty of Mewar and it is one of the most beautiful places Penny has ever stayed. It is a must for an India itinerary.
“There are actually no words to describe how amazing India and the Taj Palaces are.”
There were too many highlights to list, but the below experiences Penny found truly special:
- The Holi Festival: Holi is a Hindu festival that celebrates spring, love, and new life. It’s a colourful festival, with dancing, singing and throwing of powder paint and coloured water. Holi is also known as the “festival of colours”. “I have not laughed and had so much fun in a long time,” Penny said.
- Dining in the King’s Dining Room at Taj Falaknuma Palace Hyderabad on a table set for 101 guests. The fairy tale setting, with handcrafted menus and impeccable service provide for picture perfect moments.
- Sunrise at the Taj Mahal – whilst it was not quite as exclusive from the crowds, the experience was surreal and very spiritual.
- Anther incredible experience Exotic Destinations arranged was dinner at a local family’s home. It really was a highlight to drive to the suburbs of Delhi and experience family life with delicious homemade food.
- Staying in the Queens Suite at the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur: It was so beautiful and decadent, Penny was completely overwhelmed. As an inhouse guest you can join a historical walk at 5pm every day, a sunset boat cruise, the lamp lighting ritual at 6pm, and at 7pm, a cultural show.
Penny said that this is one of the best holiday experiences she has ever had.
“Exotic Destinations’ attention to detail was more than I have ever experienced before. Everything was very well planned and lots of special delights along the way.”
